Concerts

Rolling Stones or Side A Band? This was my dilemma last Friday. I had two tickets to the Rolling Stones and free entrance to the Side A Band (they are being managed by my friend’s dad, so it’s automatic entry).

So who did I watch? I decided to go to the Stones concert, since it was held just a mile from my office at Edison Field in Anaheim (where the Anaheim Angels play). It was a good decision because I sat on the third row from the front, although I would rather be in the infield like some of my friends. Oh, well, at least it was not a nose-bleed like some of my other friends.

Well, what can I say? It was chalked with full of hits like, Start Me Up, Brown Sugar, Paint it Black, Ruby Tuesday and, of course, Satisfaction. Mick sounded like he did in his albums. Ronnie and Keith were great. It was definitely one of my favorite concerts ever. From start to the time I left, I loved everything about the show. The staging and the set were visually stunning, and added to the music, rather than detract from it. The use of images on the big screen completely enhanced the experience, and made the stadium feel much smaller. I was completely sucked in from the beginning.

Unfortunately, I did not finish the concert. I left thirty minutes before the end of the show. My wife and kids called me on my cell phone, telling me to come home. So, I did, but not until I heard “Satisfaction.”

Postcript: At one point, the security reprimanded a guy who was dancing on the dugout roof, while they did not say anything to another guy next to him who was smoking weed. Tsk! Tsk!
